I have always loved Studio Ghibli films ever since I first saw My Neighbor Totoro when I was eight years old. They are beautiful films that both young and old alike can enjoy. The music is fantastic, the illustrations are gorgeous, and the story lines are heartfelt. My favorite Studio Ghibli film of all time is Spirited Away. When a new Studio Ghibli film was coming out I could not wait for it to see if director Hayao Miyazaki would be as good as he was before. The first Studio Ghibli film to be released in the U.S. was Laputa: Castle In The Sky which is a fantastic action-adventure film. My favorite song from the movie is "Castle In The Sky" performed by the American rock band, The B-52's which you can find on their album that they made after the movie aired on television. Although this film is awesome and would make a great Christmas gift for any anime enthusiast, it is not Studio Ghibli and it doesn't follow the typical format of an anime film. This format includes making the film entirely in the country of Japan, having Japanese people make all of the films, and generally having Japanese stories with Japanese music. Some of Studio Ghibli's most popular films are My Neighbor Totoro (1988), Spirited Away (2001), Howl's Moving Castle (2004), Ponyo (2008), and Princess Mononoke (1997). Hayao Miyazaki directed all of these films. His newest film is From Up on Poppy Hill which was released on July 19, 2011. Miyazaki decided to do a new film after being away from the animation business for a few years. He made a trip back to Japan and he visited a family that owned a castle. One of the things Miyazaki noticed while visiting the castle was the water system. The water system seemed almost magical because it seemed to come from nowhere and go nowhere at all. This made him think about how other people live their lives. He thought about how people live in different countries and how they use different methods to "get ahead" in life, but may not know if their method is right or wrong. He wondered how in the world anyone can figure out if their way of living is right. This gave him a story idea for a film which was made into From Up on Poppy Hill. In honor of Studio Ghibli's 25 years, they have released a new book titled "The Art Of Studio Ghibli". In the book is feature after feature showing sketches from famous animators and artists, characters from different movies, and pictures from Miyazaki's life. There are even pictures of Hayao Miyazaki and his son and daughter-in-law when they were younger! This book amazes me with all of the artwork and information in it. cfa1e77820
